The
Enough Abuse Campaign is committed to multiple strategies
to prevent child sexual abuse. Building local community coalitions
for prevention, launching public awareness efforts, helping
parents and other concerned adults and professionals develop
critical knowledge and skills – these are only some
of the ways the Campaign is working to protect our children.
The
Campaign is also committed to pushing on the policy front
to educate state and local officials, legislators, professional
groups and citizens about specific proposals that could help
in the fight against sexual abuse. In the months ahead the
Campaign will consider and promote a number of proposals including:
-
Reform of the state’s Statute of Limitations
law that prevents offenders from being criminally
prosecuted or civilly sued if victims don’t come forward
before the 15-year clock runs out;
-
Specialized licensure for sex offender treatment providers
to ensure that professionals working in this specialty field
are adequately trained and abide by legal standards of accountability
for their clients;
- Standards
and practices to reduce the sexual abuse of children
in a wide range of institutional settings.
We want you to be aware of these proposals and the strong
arguments that support their passage or implementation.
